At home in two worlds
On holiday: Feeling content in the desert and admiring the ancient landscape formed under tough conditions. It fades out everything that is not important. It creates stillness in you, but you can hear the bush noises clearly. No effort to drown out ANTS (annoying negative thoughts), no noise cancelling head phones required - you can hear nature but mostly you can hear yourself.
Back home in the lush gardens of the winelands, also set in nature, but the forest has a different sound. More birds. Thundering water, footsteps in mud, dogs barking. The occasional phone signal - the household clatters. Still farm life, no city noises, but a different world.
I love both worlds. And what brings both together is looking at the Detail. It is spring in both worlds, the fynbos blossoms in the water rich Cape as well as in the arid Namib. You have to look closely to see that the flowers look the same. Symmetry in each blossom, and Newton’s entire color spectrum is equally present amongst the browns of the desert and against the greens of the winter rain region.
